"To plan light, one must also plan shadow, because the
absence of light is shadow"
As a (non)commercial Artist, Light & Set Designer, I am a firm
believer in the equal and inseparable power of visual and functional
creative output. Proficient in digital media, light and set design across
opera, theatre, dance, and architecture, I´m especially focused on
that evolving space where they all begin to merge.
Without light, everything remains in the dark and our surroundings remain obscured (We perceive light by its reflection from surfaces).
I define lighting design as the creative involvement with light and space. What impression should the space give? What atmosphere should it convey? How can the space be structured and transmitted? How should people move within it? What needs to be accentuated?
Creativity, the quintessential form of of artistic thought and action,
is always multidimensional and never nourished by just a single source.
This is why it is also the acme of human diversity. Creativity is the union
of opposing extremes by an unleashed mind whose powers of imagination are allowed free rein.
Perception is a process of absorbing information.
It occurs through the use of all senses and often (in fact, usually)
both absorption and processing take place subconsciously and without reflection. However, humans can take the opportunity to elevate
their perception to awareness - and this is where it all depends on
the individual (on the self). What do they want to see? What reality do
they want to create for themselves by focusing their attention? The answer
is up to each individual: We even use the power of our thinking to
declare certain realities true or untrue.
